Bestselling authors can count on their books gracing bookstore shelves from coast-to-coast, but authors on the way up need to work harder to claim that valuable space. As a published author and a bookstore owner, Kris Neri sees the book business from multiple sides. She also knows that some authors make mistakes in their attempt to get their books into bookstores. She will share the knowledge she's gained in her years as a bookseller, including the workings of independent bookstores and the best ways for authors to approach them. She will also discuss how writers who are currently unpublished can build relationships with booksellers, so when they are published, those booksellers will want to hand-sell their books. She will pepper her talk with real life anecdotes of the best and worst approaches she's seen authors make, and will provide a handout filled with valuable gems every author should know.

Kris Neri writes the Tracy Eaton mystery series, featuring the daughter of eccentric Hollywood stars, the latest of which is Revenge For Old Times' Sake, as well as the Samantha Brennan & Annabelle Haggerty magical mysteries, Magical Alienation and High Crimes on the Magical Plane, featuring a fake psychic who teams up with a Celtic goddess/FBI agent. Her books have been honored with Agatha, Anthony, Macavity and Lefty Award nominations; she is a three-time Lefty Award nominee for Best Humorous Mystery. Kris teaches writing for the prestigious Writers' Program of the UCLA Extension School, and with her husband, owns The Well Red Coyote bookstore in Sedona.

Author Duke Southard will present his popular program, "Adventures of a True Crime Neophyte." He highlights his journey into the true crime genre of writing with his current work in progress, Murder In A Small Town: The Tragic Death of Stacey Burns. The book is based on the brutal stabbing death of a well-loved school nurse and mother of five in a small town in New Hampshire. Updated information on this project based on recent interviews conducted in New Hampshire will be discussed as well.

Duke is the author of two novels and two non-fiction books. Several of his short pieces have won awards in The Society of Southwestern Authors annual writing contests. He is retired from 35 years in public education and now lives in Green Valley after spending 40 years in New Hampshire. Complete information may be found on his website (www.dukesouthard.com).

Steve Adelson has sold another article to Financial History Magazine titled "McDonald's And The New Franchising Paradigm." The article explains how this world-wide restaurant chain owes its existence not so much to providing fast food, but by the innovative ways they developed real estate financing and lease-back arrangements with their licensees. The article provides a unique "behind the counter" view detailing a little-known operations aspect to this purveyor of hamburgers and fries.

Mike Alvarez wanted to let everyone know about the recent publication of three of his poems in the The Blue Guitar online magazine. "I usually don't write poetry, but a while back for some unknown reason poems began pouring out of me. 'Life in a Small Mining Town' was a poem I wrote with my father in mind. His death in 1986 hit me hard. Writer heal thyself: writing this poem helped me quite a bit."
The other two poems are "Telluride" and "A Brisk Walk." They can all be read at www.theblueguitarmagazine.org

Jan Holmes Frost shares the fractured vision of homegrown insurgents who manage to stay one step ahead of our nation's highest-ranking agents in Without Sanctions. Frost's technical knowledge delves into hidden, multi-layered TS areas within the FBI and CIA, where our agents are forced to implement bleeding-edge neuron technologies that until now have been unknown and untested.
Drexel Rose, an avid chess player, former Patriots linebacker and U.S. Enemy Surveillance Department expert must stop unknown enemies waging a Christmas Holiday attack on America's famous icons; but to do so, Drex and two other agents are forced to go rogue. Taking great risk, they borrow HCI (human computer interface) from the Oracles who have developed it. They must harness this unbeatable analytical capability if they are to get ahead of this new and deadly game before it reaches epic proportions.
In the tradition of Vince Flynn and Richard A. Clarke, Without Sanctions will keep you on the edge from beginning to end.
Without Sanctions is available from booksellers worldwide as well as from ebook reader sources, or you may purchase a signed copy at www.janholmesfrost.com
